Accelerating Literacy and Language Proficiency with iLit ELL: A Digitally Enhanced Curriculum
iLit California ELL is a comprehensive digital interactive intervention program that has been proven to accelerate student achievement, with students making on average 2 or more years growth in a single school year. It provides an intensive, accelerated pathway toward on-grade level language proficiency for all English learners, including Long-Term ELs. It includes more than 1,600 high-quality texts, ranging from Lexile level BR to 2500. All texts have audio support as well as translation support (both written and spoken) in 46 different languages and every word is linked to a dictionary and a picture dictionary.
iLit’s gradual release model provides an anchor text for the entire class. This is a grade-level text, which could be quite difficult for struggling readers. So iLit wraps teacher support and a shared reading experience to provide the tools for experiencing grade level complex text. The scaffolded strategies are targeted during small group instruction and then students read independently, practicing the skills and strategies from the anchor text in highly-engaging non-fiction texts that are at their reading level. This dual approach enables us to close the gap.
In iLit, students’ progress is continually assessed by a variety of measures. Embedded in iLit are the GRADE assessment--which is a NCRTI recognized independent assessment that measures reading comprehension, and the TELL assessment--which is a nationally normed assessment aligned with CA ELD standards that measures language proficiency. In addition, weekly authentic performance-based tasks that mirror SBAC style items ensure students are mastering content and prepare them for next generation assessments.
iLit combines research-proven best practices with highly-engaging texts. This results in accelerated student achievement and we have the independently verified data to prove it. Rather than lowering the bar for our ELs, iLit provides them with the boost they need to meet our high expectations.
